One question in my mind is how your Point #5 fits with some recent analyses (see Edsall's op-ed in today's NYTimes) that portray the source of populism as resistance to the "immigrant mentality." If a big chunk of the populace fights to never have to adapt, making the teaching of the immigrant mentality a bit challenging. You're right, Laetitia, but I worry that we can't successfully act on your observation. At a minimum, we need to learn how to convince our fellow citizens that the need is there and that denying such preparation to our children serves them poorly.
